Thought of The Day #24

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.” Psalm 111:10

“The fear of the LORD” means proper recognition of God and submission to Him. Humility, reverence, respect, adoration, faith these are aspects of the wisdom that supersedes earthly knowledge. What is understanding? The answer is equally clear; “To depart from evil.” Understanding is more than intellectual, it is ethical. It demands a standard of living. Reverence and rectitude; these are the two great requirements of God. Micah 6:8 speak of these two character traits as justice and mercy toward man and humility before God.

Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are recognized by the world as men of wisdom and knowledge. Is this true, according to the Bible’s definition of wisdom and knowledge?

In the great Reformation, when Luther began to preach Christianity, and to introduce Christian education anew into the world, he was compelled to meet, to renounce, and to denounce, Aristotle, and other teachers of “a deceitful philosophy,” as follows:

“Do not attach yourself to Aristotle, or to other teachers of deceitful philosophy; but diligently read the word of God.” Martin Luther

“He who says that a theologian who is not logician is an heretic and adventurer, maintains an adventurous and heretical proposition.”- Martin Luther-

“There is no form of syllogism which accords with the things of God.”

- Martin Luther-

“In one word, Aristotle is to theology as darkness to light.”

- Martin Luther-

“Aristotle, that blind heathen, has displaced Christ.” -Martin Luther-

“I much fear the universities will become wide gates to hell, if due care is not taken to explain the Holy Scriptures and engrave it on the hearts of the students. My advice to every person is, not to place his child where the Scripture does not reign paramount. Every institution in which the studies carried on lead to a relaxed consideration of the Word of God must prove corrupting.” -Martin Luther-

Wycliffe declare “there is no subtlety in grammar, neither in logic, nor in any other science that can be named, but that it is found in a more excellent degree in the Scriptures.”

This makes the Bible indeed the light of the world. For anybody to profess to believe the Bible for what it is – the Word of God – and at the same time not allow that the Bible must be the leading book in all education, are two things that will not hold together at all.

The time has come when we must take God and His Word seriously. Why? Why? Because Jesus is about to return. It is time to sanctify our lives, work with our character, and be prepare. The Word of God provides the wisdom and the knowledge to Get ready, Be ready, and Live ready for Jesus second coming.

God Bless.
